GETTING AROUND MARRAKECH

From a tourist point of view, the main attractions of Marrakech are in downtown, so called “Medina”. The best way to access is by foot, however, to move around, we can find different options:

Taxis

Taxis

There are two types, grand taxis and petit taxis. They can be found at the bus station, Djemaa El Fna and the main post office in Gueliz. A price is usually set but it can be negotiated (Guia de Marrakech, 2020).

Caleche

Caleche

Horse-drawn carriage and a popular way to get around Marrakech. They move as a regular car on the roads. It is necessary to set the price before. Places where find a Caleche are the Garden Square, between the Koutoubia Mosque and Djemaa el Fna, El Badi Palace and the more expensive hotels (Civitatis, 2020).

Moped or bicycle

Moped or bicycle

It seems to be a good option to move in the Medina. Medina Bike offers 24h services, renting electrical bicycles. This company has three options that work in the same way, three first hours free and then the extra ½ hour for 10HD. Daily pass for 50DH, Weekly pass 150DH and Annual pass 500DH are the offers of the company. There are twelve station in total near some entrance to the Medina (Medina Bike Marrakech, 2020).

Bus

Bus

The urban bus company is Alsa and the ticket price varies between 4 and 6 DH depending on the line and the area (if you do not leave the centre it is always the minimum fare)(Alsa Marrakech, 2020). The stops are not particularly well marked, so they are not recommended for those who do not know the city very well. The central stop of almost all the lines are the green canopies that are on Rue El Mouhaidine, a few meters from the Koutoubia Mosque and about 200 meters from the Jemaa El Fna square.

Marrakesh Bus Tour

Marrakesh Bus Tour

It is the official tourist bus. There are two different routes; the historical tour route which lasts around 1 hour and 15 minutes and has 18 stops, discovering the top points of the city; and the Palm Grove Tour Route with 13 stops exploring the northern part of the city (Marrakech City-tour, 2020).

Tuk tuk

Tuk tuk

A mean of transport imported from Asia launched in Marrakech by an association that helps people with reduced mobility. They circulate only in the medina and are not insured abroad. Count around 80-100 Dh for 30-40 minutes; less for a short term (Routard, 2020).
